Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Quality Engineer with strong hands-on experience in sheet metal MIG and TIG welding quality. The candidate will be responsible for in-process quality control, weld inspection, defect reduction, process monitoring, documentation, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform first-off, setup approval, patrol, in-process, and final inspections.

  • Ensure compliance with control plans, welding standards, work instructions, and customer requirements.

  • Monitor welding parameters such as current, voltage, wire feed rate, gas flow rate, travel speed, and heat input.

  • Verify compliance with approved WPS and welding process settings.

  • Inspect MIG/TIG weld joints and monitor defects such as porosity, lack of fusion, undercut, burn-through, cracks, spatter, and distortion.

  • Perform dimensional inspection using vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, weld gauges, profile projectors, and CMM.

  • Participate in root cause analysis using 5 Why, Why-Why, and Fishbone methods.

  • Support CAPA implementation and preparation of 8D reports.

  • Support visual inspection, dye penetrant testing, macro etching, and destructive testing.

  • Maintain welding quality and inspection records.

  • Support IATF 16949 compliance, internal audits, and layered process audits.

  • Support APQP, PPAP, welding trials, parameter validation, and capability studies.

  • Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Tool Room, Process Engineering, and NPD teams.

  • Support customer complaint investigations and supplier quality activities.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of MIG and TIG welding processes

  • Sheet metal welding quality experience

  • Welding symbols and GD&T

  • APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, and MSA

  • IATF 16949

  • CMM and dimensional inspection

  • Weld defect analysis and inspection techniques

  • 8D, CAPA, 5 Why, and root cause analysis

Candidate Profile

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in sheet metal welding quality

  • Hands-on exposure to MIG and TIG welding operations

  • Automotive or auto-component manufacturing experience preferred
